Drake Tax OnlineTM continues to expand, giving preparers more ways to work directly in the browser while improving everyday preparation and review workflows.
Recent and upcoming updates focus on three areas: expanding native business return preparation, reducing duplicate K-1 data entry, and making field verification easier to manage. Together, these improvements help preparers spend more time working within Drake Tax Online and less time switching between programs or repeating tasks.
Prepare More Business Returns Directly in Drake Tax Online
Drake Tax Online is expanding native support for business packages.
Previously, preparers could create and manage certain business returns in Drake Tax Online, but data entry required launching Drake Tax Desktop. With native support, preparers can work on supported returns directly in the browser.
Native support is available for these packages now:
- Form 1120
- Form 1041
- Form 706
- Form 990
As these packages become available, preparers can complete more returns entirely within Drake Tax Online. This reduces the need to move between Drake Tax Online and Drake Tax Desktop and supports a more consistent browser-based workflow.
K-1 Export Is Coming Soon
Another upcoming improvement brings K-1 export functionality to Drake Tax Online.
For eligible 1065, 1120-S, and 1041 returns, preparers will be able to export Schedule K-1 data into related 1040 or 1041 returns. The functionality follows the existing Drake Tax Desktop workflow and limitations.
This can reduce duplicate data entry when a preparer works with related entity and individual returns. Instead of manually entering the same K-1 information in another return, preparers can use the export workflow to move eligible data between returns.
K-1 export is expected in mid-September.
Verified Fields Offer a Simpler Review Experience
Drake Tax Online has also updated the Verified Fields experience.
The previous experience used green highlighting to identify verified fields. The updated workflow provides clearer tools for reviewing and verifying information as preparers work through a return.
The new experience includes:
- A verification banner at the top of forms
- Inline field verification
- A progress count
- An Accept all action
These changes make it easier to see which fields require attention and track verification progress. Preparers can review information without the previous green-highlighted field treatment, helping make the process less disruptive as they move through the return.
The updated Verified Fields experience is available now.
A More Complete Browser-Based Workflow
These updates continue the expansion of Drake Tax Online beyond individual features.
Native business package support allows more return preparation to take place directly in the browser. K-1 export is designed to reduce duplicate entry between related returns. The updated Verified Fields experience makes review tasks easier to understand and complete.
The result is a more consistent workflow within Drake Tax Online, with fewer reasons to switch between programs and fewer manual steps during preparation and review.
As additional business packages and K-1 export become available, preparers can do even more of their tax preparation work directly in Drake Tax Online.
